Make-Out Monsters
Graphic Designer & Co-Art Director
A sexy night of dancing, mingling, and falling in love with various kinds of monsters under the neon lights of the night club without ever taking itself too seriously, is what we wanted this competitive deckbuilder to communicate at first glance. As a card-based game, the visuals also prioritized readbility and physical qualities (like where players would place their thumbs, for example) when cards are actually being played in hand.
As a co-art director, I worked together with another art director and illustrator to establish the color palette and key motifs, which are crucial to the deckbuilding gameplay and currency, as well as provide art notes regarding character design and card art.
As the graphic designer, I was in charge of designing the cards, from layouts and drafts used in playtesting, to typesetting, communicating with the illustrator for the card art, and iterating up until the final version as seen here. I was also in charge of designing the icons for card types and currencies, as well as designing the card backing and other supplemental printed game materials.
Card Design Iterations
I also did the game design for Make-Out Monsters - See more here.
