Our Vanishing Summer

Art Director & 2D Artist

Visual Goals — The experience should emulate the feeling of warmth and nostalgia of a tropical seaside town, as it is being viewed through a child’s eyes. What that means, is that the visual of the game should represent a dreamy, idealized version of the world from a child’s point of view, like a theatre set combined with a hand drawn picture book.

  • To reflect the gameplay, the visual identity that I defined includes many of the visual signals of the cozy genre, like color palette and chibi proportions, with the addition of a crayon-inspired coloring style and drawing references from Y2K futurism kid’s tech in order to create the game's own identity of a world viewed through the eye of a young child living in the 2000s.

  • I have created an art bible for the game, which includes guides and rules from character design, to coloring and UI, for my own use as the sole artist, but also for future reference if the team were to expand. Contact me to view the art bible.

Key Art & Game Assets

  • I mainly used Procreate to draw the 2D assets for the game, with the help of Adobe Photoshop for specific assets like UI and large building structures for import into Unity.

  • The process includes layering of brushes to create the half gouache half soft pastels effect for the children characters, while the nature and environment are painted digitally using a real gouache technique.

I also did the game design for Our Vanishing Summer - See more here.
