Birds Don't Cry at Sunrise is a narrative-driven, psychological horror game that depicts the story a child and parent with opposing beliefs which leads to a falling out within the household, and focuses on the psychological strain that ensues from that situation. It aims to utilize the elements of horror as metaphors in order to reflect on real-life experiences liek oppression.
The player becomes 'Lin,' a girl who woke up to find her own house transformed into a nightmarish state. In order to find out what happened, the player will be exploring, uncovering what happened to the house, and solving puzzles to progress through the levels.
Genre: Narrative Side Scroller, Psychological Horror
Platform: PC, Mac

This game was an IndieCade 2022 Impact Award Nominee.
With the game’s having its narrative heavily influenced by Thai cultures, one of the main challenges when making Birds Don’t Cry at Sunrise was how to convey its culturally specific context to international players. I decided to tackle this with the use of visual allegories and dream-like gameplay sequences, where players are being led through an abstracted experience of oppressive ideals in order to come to an understanding about the topic and find a relation to it in their own ways.
