Home Sweet Home : Online
Art Director
Visual Goals — The challenge of designing the visual identity for Home Sweet Home : Online was to breathe new life into an existing IP’s direction to reach a wider set of players. The result was a moody, gritty, buddhist spiritualism-inspired direction, borrowing from the unique visuals of Thai horror films, but with an addition of neon purple and marigold. These two colors represent the core of the art direction of the game: neon purple as the modern and flashy new identity of the game, and marigold as the thai culture that is the heart of the series.
Working with an existing IP, I collaborated with the game director and creative director, through research, meetings and rapid iteration of concepts, to overhaul the previous game’s art direction and solidify what the new visual identity would become.
In particular, I worked closely with concept and 2D artists, creating sketches, guidelines, collaborating, and providing art notes, as they are the first steps to visualizing what the game would look like.
Beyond 2D, I also provided art notes for VFX artists, 3D artists, and down the pipeline to animators and voice actors. These were crucial steps in making the visual world of the game cohesive as I designed down to the sounds and movements accompanying what the players’ eyes perceive.
